Real World Effectiveness of Combining an Employer-based Weight Management Program With Medication...

Obesity

Researchers are doing this study to compare the effects of drugs approved for long-term weight loss combined with an employer-based weight management program with the effects of the weight management program without drugs for weight loss. If participants agree to be in this study, they will join the Cleveland Clinic Integrated Medical Weight Management Program (WMP). Participants will be assigned by chance (like flipping a coin) to one of two treatment groups: A) Group 1: Cleveland Clinic Integrated Medical WMP + medication for long-term weight loss. B) Group 2: Cleveland Clinic Integrated Medical WMP without medication for weight loss. Participants have an equal chance of being in either of the treatment groups. The total study duration for the individual participants will be approximately one year.

FMT and Fiber in Patients With Metabolic Syndrome

ObesityMetabolic Syndrome

This study is looking at the safety and effectiveness of stool transplant, also known as Fecal Microbiota Transplantation (FMT) and prebiotic supplementation in the management of metabolic syndrome. Metabolic syndrome is a common progressive medical condition that is linked to obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. Obesity and metabolic syndrome are associated with abnormalities in gut flora which lead to chronic inflammation. This chronic inflammation is thought to worsen the insulin resistance and heart disease seen with metabolic syndrome. Current treatment strategies have shown limited effect, are expensive, and have side effects with long-term use. FMT is a one-time treatment that has been shown to replace the abnormal gut flora and improve metabolic disease by increasing anti-inflammatory short chain fatty acid (SCFA) production. However, the effects from FMT are not permanent. Prebiotic supplementation is one strategy that may help to extend the benefits of FMT by helping sustain high SCFA levels. At this point, it is not known how FMT and prebiotics work together to affect SCFA levels in participants with metabolic syndrome. This study will look at this interaction and answer if prebiotic therapy is effective in prolonging the benefits of FMT in participants with metabolic syndrome.

A Research Study of How NNC0174-0833 Behaves in Japanese and Caucasian Volunteers Who Are Normal...

ObesityOverweight

The aim of this study is to look at how the study medicine behaves in the participant's body and how it is removed from the participant's body. The study compares Japanese and Caucasian people who are normal weight, overweight or with obesity. The participants will either get NNC0174-0833 (a potential new medicine) or placebo (a "dummy" medicine similar to the study medicine but without active ingredients) - which treatment any participant gets is decided by chance. Participants will get 1 injection by a study nurse at the clinic. The injection will be with a needle in a skin fold in the participant's stomach area. The study will last for about 4 months, but duration of participation for any participant will last up to about 2 months. The participants will have 8 clinic visits with the study staff.

Balanced (Egg) Protein During Obesity Reduction: Differential Responses of Insulin Resistance by...

Pre DiabetesObesity

The purpose of the trial is to assess the effects of combining regular, generous intakes of high quality protein (with substantial amounts provided from whole eggs and egg whites) with calorie restriction on insulin resistance and weight loss (along with function, body composition, racial disparities, and a number of secondary outcomes) in black and white older adults with prediabetes who are participating in a 4-month intervention. The investigators will compare these effects to the same outcomes with a control group consuming a traditional control regimen of calorie restriction over the same duration.

CHRONOtype-adjusted DIET on Weight Loss

Obesity

BACKGROUND: Several reports have observed that the alteration of normal biological rhythms is associated with obesity development. In this regard, those subject with the preference for evening seems to be prone to develop obesity. However, the current treatment of obesity does not take into account these aspects OBJECTIVE: To evaluate whether a diet adjusted to patient's chronotype is more effective than the current dietary recommendations. SUBJECTS/METHODS: 209 subjects take part in a randomized, double-blind clinical trial. 104 subjects followed a typical hypocaloric dietary treatment (CONTROL) and the other 105 subjects undergone a diet with a daily caloric distribution adjusted to their chronotype (CHRONO). CONCLUSIONS: A chronotype-adjusted diet may be a promising alternative to the classical hypocaloric dietary treatment since the investigator's data indicate a higher effectiveness regarding weight loss when the diet was adjusted to the patient's chronotype.

Behavioral and Pharmacologic Treatment of Binge Eating and Obesity: Maintenance Therapy

Binge-Eating DisorderObesity

This study will test the effectiveness and relative efficacy of naltrexone/bupropion medication as a maintenance therapy for the treatment of binge eating disorder (BED) in patients with obesity. This is a controlled test of whether, amongst responders to acute treatments, naltrexone/bupropion medication results in superior maintenance and longer-term outcomes compared with placebo.

Effects of Self-conditioning Techniques in Promoting Weight Loss in Patients With Obesity. A Randomized...

Obesity

The investigators hypothesized that hypnosis is an alternative technique that could be applied to help patients with obesity to lose weight. The possibility that a self-conditioning technique (self-hypnosis) added to traditional approach (diet, exercise and behavioral recommendations) will be effective in determining weight loss with respect to the traditional approach in subjects with a body mass index (BMI) between 35 and 50 kg/m2 will be studied.

Interventions for Adolescent Obesity

Adolescent Obesity

This study will evaluate whether the short-term use of activity tracking devices improves short-term weight loss in adolescents. The investigators will evaluate whether weight loss translates into a change in obesity-related biomarkers associated with adolescent obesity. In addition, the investigators will report outcomes after the implementation of activity tracking devices in conjunction with an intense adolescent weight loss program.

Home Exercise Intervention in Childhood Obesity

Child Obesity

Aim: To evaluate the impact of a physical exercise Web-based program with or without support on body composition, physical fitness and blood pressure values. Design: Randomized Controlled Trial. Population: Obese children and adolescents.

Clinical & Community Approaches to Weight Management

Overweight and Obesity

This project seeks to build on innovative strategies to optimize the care of low-income children with a BMI ≥ 85th percentile. To accomplish this goal, investigators will implement a new clinical-community intervention, theoretically grounded in the Integrated Clinical and Community Systems of Care Model, to address obesity through optimized screening and management known to be effective, e-Referrals, Healthy Weight Clinics, and the YMCA's Healthy Weight and Your Child weight management program (originally known as MEND). The study will examine outcomes for children that matter most to a broad group of stakeholders including parents, clinicians, and public health practitioners as well as inform the care of >7 million children with obesity covered by the Children's Health Insurance Program or Medicaid.
