Use of Autologous Adipose-Derived Stromal Vascular Fraction to Treat Osteoarthritis of the Knee...

ArthritisDegenerative

Autologous adipose-derived stromal vascular fraction (SVF) was used to treat 10 osteoarthritic knees of grade II or III (K-L scale) under IRB-approved protocol in a feasibility and safety study. The adipose-derived SVF was obtained through disaggregation of lipoaspirate and resuspension of the SVF in 3 ml of Lactated Ringer's Solution, with a mean of 48 million nucleated SVF cells and a mean viability of 78%, injected per knee. Cell suspension was injected into the intra-articular space using ultrasound guidance. At 12 weeks post-op all 10 knees showed decreased pain and increased mobility, both statistically significant (α = .01). Nine of ten knees reported either maximum possible or very significant decrease in pain. No infections, acute pain flares, or other adverse events were reported. Patient ages ranged from 52 - 69 years with a mean of 59 years.

Fascial Manipulation in Patients With Hip Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis

The study will test the efficacy of the treatment of soft tissues for osteoarthritis patients that are waiting for total hip arthroplasty. The fascial manipulation provides a deep pressure of specific points of the muscle fascia. The aims of this treatment are the improve of pain before the surgery and the improve of functional performance after the surgery.

The Effect of Medical Exercise Therapy on Pain, Function and Physical Activity in Patients With...

OsteoarthritisKnee

The aim of the project is to investigate effects of medical exercise therapy (MET) on patients with knee osteoarthritis. MET is a common physical therapy intervention, and the project aim to strengthen the evidence of this intervention. An experimental cohort design is chosen, and 20 participants will be followed for 6 months. Assessments will be clinical tests, questionnaires and accelerometer measurements before, during, and after a 3 month period of exercise (3 days per week) with a physical therapist. The project will answer if a 3 month physical therapy intervention using MET causes changes in pain level, function and activity level for patients with knee osteoarthritis. In addition, it will investigate whether a single global endurance workout for 30 minutes will have an effect on pain level for these patients

Liraglutide 3 mg for Knee Osteoarthritis

OsteoarthritisObesity

A randomised, double blind, placebo-controlled, parallel group, and single-centre trial investigating the effect of liraglutide on body weight and pain in overweight or obese patients with knee osteoarthritis. Patients will be subjected to a run-in diet intervention phase (week -8 to 0) including a low-calorie diet and dietetic counselling. At week 0 patients will be randomised to receive either liraglutide 3 mg or liraglutide 3 mg placebo as an add-on to dietetic guidance on re-introducing regular foods and a focus on continued motivation to engage in a healthy lifestyle.

Selective Tibial Nerve Block vs Local Infiltration Analgesia After Prothetic Knee Surgery

Postoperative PainKnee Osteoarthritis

Patient suffer from moderate posterior knee pain after TKA despite injection of local anesthetic around the femoral or saphenous nerves. Indeed, the posterior part of the knee is innervated by the sciatic nerve. This nerve is not routinely blocked as clinicians fear to produce a motor block of the leg that might impair the postoperative assessment. An analgesic alternative is the infiltration of the knee with local anesthetics performed by the surgeon. Recently a trial(1) demonstrated that a selective tibial nerve block provides an effective analgesia without a motor blockage when compared with a sciatic nerve block. The objective of this randomized controlled double-blinded trial is to assess whether a tibial nerve block is more effective for the postoperative pain than local infiltration analgesia when there are combined with an adductor canal block, without decreasing the functional parameters.

Ultrasound and Exercises in Knee Osteoarthritis

OsteoarthritisKnee

The aim of this investigation is to compare the effects of continuous (CUS) and pulsed (PUS) ultrasound associated with a program of exercises on pain, range of motion, muscle strength, functionality, mobility and activity in patients with knee osteoarthritis. Participants were randomized into five groups: Group I (in the first month, continuous ultrasound was applied), Group II (in the first month, pulsed ultrasound was applied), Group III (in the first and second month, the continuous ultrasound was applied), Group IV (in the first and second month, the pulsed ultrasound was applied) and Group V (patients received only exercise sessions for eight weeks).

OsteoarthritisKnee

This is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, 2-injection, 52-week study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of intra-articular injections of CNTX-4975-05 in subjects with chronic, moderate-to-severe osteoarthritis knee pain.

A Study Evaluating the Safety, Tolerability and Efficacy of Two Injections of SM04690 for the Treatment...

Knee Osteoarthritis

The primary purpose of this phase 2, placebo-controlled, double-blind, parallel group study is to provide an initial evaluation of two intra-articular (IA) injections of SM04690 (each at the dose of 0.07mg per 2mL injection) approximately six months apart into the target knee of moderately to severely symptomatic osteoarthritis (OA) subjects. Subjects who complete this 52-week long study will be eligible to enter the extension phase for an additional 52 weeks of treatment.
