Efficacy of Protein Supplemented Very Low Calorie Meals on Weight Loss
ObesitySarcopenic ObesityThis randomized clinical trial will evaluate the efficacy and safety of protein supplemented very low calorie meals on weight loss and weight loss maintenance among people with obesity.

Brief mHealth Self-Compassion Intervention on Internalized Weight Bias
ObesityStigma1 moreThe proposed investigation is an experimental trial among 80 adults with obesity and internalized weight bias to determine preliminary effects of a smartphone-delivered brief self-compassion mindfulness intervention on internalized weight bias, compared to wait list control. All participants will receive a 4-week mindfulness-based intervention via smartphone. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two treatment arms: (1) the intervention group, a self-compassion mindfulness practice tailored for weight and body concerns, or (2) a wait list control group, who will receive access to the intervention content following completion of end-of-treatment assessments. All intervention content will be delivered via text message.

Eye Movement Testing in Patients With Obesity and the Impact of Weight Loss Surgery
Bariatric Surgery CandidateObesity1 moreObesity is a condition of chronic low-grade inflammation, thought to be secondary to adipose tissue secretion of cytokines including interleukin 6 (IL-6), and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF- α) which effect multiple pathways and lead to an increase in C-reactive protein (CRP), a sensitive marker of systemic inflammation. Chronic inflammation is thought to be a major risk factor for the development of metabolic syndrome, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and cancer. Inflammatory cytokines have also been shown to directly and indirectly interact with the central nervous system influencing behavior and neural activity. Obesity is an independent risk factor for reduced cognitive function including poor attention, executive function and memory. Demonstrating improvement in dynamic visual processing following bariatric surgery could expand our understanding of the impact of obesity on central nervous system (CNS) function.

ObesityThis study is designed as a two-dummy randomized controlled trial to evaluate the safety and superiority of Yin and Yang regulating moxibustion in the treatment of menopausal obese patients.

Effect of Fasting and Calorie-Restricted Diets on Dopamine and Serotonin Levels Among Obese Women...
Eating DisordersIntermittent Fasting1 moreObesity presents a substantial economic burden in Jordan. Binge eating disorder (BED) and food addiction (FA) are the most common eating disorders associated with obesity. BED and FA most therapeutic approach is cognitive-behavioral therapy. Dopamine (DA) and serotonin (5HT) the major neurotransmitter responsible for FA and BED. Daily calorie restriction (CR) and intermittent calorie restriction (ICR) are two forms of diet therapy that can help weight loss. Prolong fasting increases lipolysis and elevates ketones bodies' levels in the brain led to a significant increase in the DA and 5HT. No prior human research has examined the effect of ICR (model 8:16) on DA and 5HT levels and weight reduction on obese with BED and FA. Therefore, A Randomized, controlled trial of 6 weeks follow-up will be used. A sample of 100 obese women will be selected to be randomly assigned to daily CR or ICR, or control group without FA or BED for a period of 6 weeks. Participants will be undergoing nutrition assessment, Anthropometrics assessment, food Addiction assessment (YFAS), binge eating assessment (BEDS-7), and hormonal level (DA&5HT) at baseline and after 6 weeks. The investigators anticipated that CR and ICR (model8:16) will significantly induce DA&5HT level changes and that ICR (model8:16) will be significantly more effective than CR in reducing BED & FA.

Effect of Laser Acupuncture on Obesity
ObesityBackground: Obesity-related diseases have a profound economic impact on health care systems. Laser acupuncture has been shown to have beneficial effects on obesity. However, to our knowledge, those trials were either non-randomized, non-blinded, or included low-calorie diet control. Investigators have therefore designed a patient-assessor-blinded, randomized, sham-controlled crossover trial to investigate the significance of laser acupuncture on obesity. Methods/design: One hundred and four subjects above 20 years of age with a body mass index (BMI) of over 25 kg/m2 will be divided into two groups: experimental and control. Each subject will receive the treatment relevant to their group three times a week for eight weeks. After eight weeks of treatment the subject will enter a two week washout period, after which the subjects will switch groups. Measurements will include BMI, body fat percentage, waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), waist circumference, hip circumference, skinfold thickness, thigh circumference, body fat, blood pressure, heart rate, hunger, and the 36-item short-form health survey (SF-36). Discussion: The results of this pilot study will provide the basis for future large-scale multicenter trials investigating the effects of laser acupuncture on obesity.

Evaluation of the Effects of Laying Early a Gastric Band on the Prevention of Morbid Obesity Randomized...
ObesityMAIN OBJECTIVE To compare the effects of the placement of an adjustable gastric band with "conventional" treatment of obesity. SECONDARY OBJECTIVES Compare the effects of the placement of a gastric band with "conventional" treatment of obesity on quality of life, body composition and parameters of the metabolic syndrome. Identify predictors of "good answer to the ring" to determine the best future indications. Study of the gastric tolerance. INCLUSION CRITERIA Adolescents 12 to 16 years and with BMI and weight gain according to sex and age is greater than IMCZ-score > 4 DP> 8 kg Obesity "common" non-syndromic. Medical decision of surgical placement of laparoscopic gastric banding. Adolescent and family who understand and accept the need for medical and surgical follow long term. Adolescent and family who fully understood the oral and written information explaining the study and the need for prolonged follow-up. Obtention of oral and written consent of the adolescent and the parents. Parents and adolescents affiliated with the social security system. NONINCLUSION CRITERIA Intellectual Deficit. psychiatrics contraindication of surgical placement of laparoscopic gastric banding. Obesity with severe binge eating. Pregnancy or wishes of pregnancy in the following year. Non accession adolescent and / or family in the process of medical care before inclusion. Predictable post surgical monitoring difficulties. Suspicion of physical abuse, verbal or negligence / deficiency in care of the family. Participation in a clinical study evaluating a treatment during the 2 years of the study. EXCLUSION CRITERIA Anesthetic contre indication for placement of a gastric laparoscopic. IMC> 50 kg/m2 the day of inclusion. STRATEGIES / PROCEDURES During a routine visit, the study will be presented to the patient and his family. Patients will then be enrolled and randomized. Patients in group A (surgery group) will follow the usual multidisciplinary bariatric surgery in adolescents. Patients in group B start conventional monitoring dietary medical and physical. For both groups follow-up visits will occur every 3 months for 2 years.

fMRI and Appetite-Related Hormones Pre and Post Obesity Surgery
ObesityThe investigators are looking at the differences in appetite and obesity between weight loss participants and patients undergoing bariatric surgery. Obese persons between the ages of 18 & 65 are eligible to participate in this study, whether or not they intend to undergo bariatric surgery.
