The Effects of Supplementation of Conjugated Linoleic Acid on Body Fat Reduction

ObesityAdiposity

This is a double-blinded randomized controlled trial, to evaluate the effectiveness of daily supplementation of 3.2 g CLA on body fat reduction and lipid profile in overweight or obese Chinese adults, during a lifestyle counselling-based weight loss.

Unsaturated Fatty Acids to Improve Cardiorespiratory Fitness in Obesity and HFpEF

ObesityHeart Failure With Normal Ejection Fraction

This study is designed to evaluate the effects of a diet rich in unsaturated fatty acids (UFA)-also known as 'healthy fats'-in patients with obesity and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) on dietary consumption of UFA as well as fatty acids plasma levels.

Effect of Prebiotic or Synbiotic on Inflammatory Response and Indicators of Nutritional Status in...

Morbid Obesity

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of prebiotic or synbiotic supplementation on inflammatory response and indicators of nutritional status in patients with morbid obesity. Study hypothesis: Supplementation of 12 g/day of fructooligosaccharides (prebiotic) or 12 g/day of fructooligosaccharides + strains of lactobacilli and bifidobacteria (synbiotic) during 30 days promotes reduction of plasma/serum levels of acute phase proteins, cytokines, metabolic and anthropometric parameters in individuals with BMI ≥ 40kg/m².

W8Loss2Go: mHealth Weight Management Strategy

Obesity

The investigators will test a recent mobile technology based (mHealth) behavioral weight loss intervention (W8Loss2Go), which is designed for children and adolescents, and uses an addiction model to promote withdrawal from problem foods, snacking, and excessive amounts at meals. The investigators will test whether this intervention will reduce body mass index (BMI), help subjects identify and withdraw from "problem foods", eliminate snacking, and reduce the amounts of foods consumed at home meals.

Energy Balance & Weight Loss in Craniopharyngioma-related or Other Hypothalamic Tumors in Hypothalamic...

Hypothalamic Obesity

The proposed multicenter study will test the effect of glucagon-like peptide (GLP)-1 agonist exenatide once weekly extended-release (ExQW, Bydureon®) on clinical outcomes and metabolic parameters in a double-blind, placebo-controlled 36 week randomized trial with an 18 week open label extension. Following baseline testing, 48 patients will be randomly assigned with equal allocation to ExQW or matching placebo injection for 36 weeks, followed by an 18 week open label extension during which all patients receive ExQW. Changes of weight status, body composition, free-living total daily energy expenditure (EE) by doubly labeled water (DLW), activity by acetimetry, energy intake (questionnaires and food diary), as well as glucose tolerance and hormonal parameters of energy homeostasis and insulin resistance will be assessed before treatment and at the end of the placebo-controlled phase (week 36). Activity, metabolic outcomes, energy intake will be also assessed at study week 18 (mid treatment of randomized study), as well as week 54 (end of open label treatment).

Effects of Interleukin-1 Beta on Low Testosterone Levels in Men With Obesity and Metabolic Syndrome...

HypogonadismMetabolic Syndrome X1 more

Obesity and the metabolic syndrome in men are associated with a high prevalence of hypogonadism of up to 50%. Increased fat mass leads to augmented release of adipocytokines and pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1-beta, IL-6 and tumor necrosis factor-alpha which in turn suppress the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis, leading to hypogonadism. This pathophysiological interplay is termed hypogonadal-obesity-adipocytokine hypothesis. TestIL is a prospective, multicenter, randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled trial to test the hypothesis that inhibition of IL-1-activity diminishes the inhibitory effects on HPG axis and increases testosterone levels in men with metabolic syndrome.

Impact of Digital Therapeutic on Metabolic Parameters

Insulin ResistancePrediabetic State3 more

The purpose of this prospective randomized controlled study is to evaluate the impact of a six-month digitally administered behavioral change program on body weight, glycemic control and other metabolic parameters in obese adults with insulin resistance, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes as compared to conventional high-intensity lifestyle intervention program administered at a specialized department of a university hospital.

Efficacy of ENTREN-F Program: A Psycho-family Intervention in Childhood Obesity

Childhood Obesity

ENTREN-F Programme describes a novel structured psychosocial family-based intervention from Primary Care using a train trip metaphor aimed at improving healthy lifestyles for the whole family. It is oriented to children aged 8-12 years old who have overweight or obesity. The ENTREN-F intervention lasts 6 months and consists in 12 biweekly 2-h2 sessions in group, following a multidisciplinary perspective. The main aim is to examine the efficacy of the intervention program 'ENTREN-F' (intervention for children plus family intervention) on anthropometrics, behaviour, psychological and family factors, from a multidisciplinary perspective, compared with another group participating in the same program 'ENTREN' (intervention for children without family intervention) and with a control group (usual treatment) among Spanish children with overweight and obesity. Finally, (2) the second aim was to evaluate whether the changes were maintained 6, 12 and 18 months after the end of the intervention. Hypothesis The specific hypotheses of the present study were as follows: (a) There will be significant differences in the adherence to treatment, being higher in the ENTREN-F group (b) There will be improvements in clinical outcomes regarding the anthropometric variables of the child, the level of physical activity, psychological distress, and eating disorder of the child, after both interventions (ENTREN and ENTREN-F programme), in comparison to control group (d) There will be only improvements in clinical outcomes regarding in the family's healthy life-style, psychological distress of the parents, and the family environment, after the intervention of the ENTREN-F programme. (e) The significant changes produced will remain stable at the 6,12 and 18-month follow-up in the ENTREN-F group.

Gastrointestinal Tolerability to Agavins and Impact on Host-gut Microbiota-metabolism Interactions...

ObesityHealthy

Agavins are branched neo-fructans and prebiotic fiber found in Agave plants. In preclinical studies, agavins have demonstrated an effect in reversing metabolic disorders associated to overweight and obesity through the modulation of gut microbiota activity and composition, showing their interesting potential in the context of high obesity and cardiovascular diseases prevalence in Mexican population. However, current information about gastrointestinal adaptation and effects of agavins intake in humans is scarce. We hypothesized that increasing amounts of agavins up to 12 g/day, will be well tolerated by healthy and obese adult participants, but with differences between these groups, modulating gut microbiota activity and structure differentially, as well as the metabolic status after a 5-week dose-escalation intervention.
